Okay, so to be fair, this is a manual and if you need a manual, it's great. It's not really meant for a one sitting read-through. In this respect, the prose is easy to read, the digital text organized with helpful in-text links, and it's pretty short and sweet. A doctor could probably tell you everything in this book, but there may be things you wouldn't think to bring up that'll help you prepare better than you would otherwise.That said, if, like me, you were thinking, "Maybe I'm just not sure about getting pregnant because I need to educate myself!" and plan to read it in one sitting, don't get this book. Being a manual, this guidebook will cover all the good things, but also ALL THE HORRIBLE THINGS THAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG, and in one sitting it's exhausting and nerve-wrecking. If you're in 100%, you might feel assured having all these helpful checklists and reminders and vocabulary lists, but, if not, you might end up feeling even less ready and a bit unnerved. I have never left a bad review of a book before, but I keep stopping to yell “I hate this book!” at my husband and that’s probably not healthy. The sentence that got me to finally review it is as follows: “Thin may be in, but here’s the skinny on being really skinny.” There’s some helpful info in here, but it’s hard when you can only read a few pages at a time before throwing the book at a wall. Also, my husband was excited to read this with me, only to be put off by the fact that advice for men was relegated into infrequent, tiny boxes with titles like “Butt Out, Dad.” I love a good pun, but these are not punny.
